the art of lost wax casting

Lost-wax casting is an ancient art dating back more than 5,000 years, with some of the earliest known examples found in regions including the Levant and South Asia. For thousands of years, artisans have used this process to transform wax into lasting metal objects, carrying a handmade form from one material into another.
At Pinto, each piece begins in wax, shaped and carved by hand in my studio before being cast in metal, transforming a small, handmade form into something made to be held onto.
Every piece is a labor of love, made by my own two hands. I strive to work as sustainably as I can with the resources available to me, incorporating recycled metals wherever possible.

a little about pinto

My love for jewelry started when I was just a girl, digging through my Bubbie’s jewelry box, fascinated by every special piece and wondering where she got it. Growing up, jewelry was how so many of life’s big moments were marked and celebrated. To me, it has always represented something much bigger than what it is- a tangible expression that we get to carry with us for as long as we’re meant to hold it.
I like to think that when we lose a piece, it has simply served its purpose in our lives. We learn to let go, make room, and welcome something new. There is something truly special about the way objects can hold meaning for a time and eventually bring us full circle.
In a way, Pinto Studio is a full circle moment of its own. It’s named after the Pinto horse (I also like beans), my first love and one of my earliest experiences of feeling true care and connection. That first passion, along with the people and experiences that have guided me, continues to influence the way I create and express myself.
Many of my collections so far have been inspired by my dad, a builder who taught me to appreciate the process of making and the importance of doing the right thing even when it’s really hard. I’m equally inspired by the long line of women who have shaped me. They’ve shown me that true style goes far beyond what you wear; it’s in the way you carry yourself, the strength you embody, and the way you boogie through it all.
Pinto Studio is an extension of all of these things. My loved ones, my creativity, my own journey of healing, and the little pieces of life that have stuck. Each piece is handmade by me with the hope that it sticks with you and brings some light or inspiration. Thanks for being here.

BIG LUV,

Madison
